I’m down north of Pueblo CO in the middle of nowhere and this thing has been sitting long enough to be noticed as an abandoned vehicle. Looks like it was someone’s prized possession so if the owner was hooning and killed it, I’d expect they would have retrieved it by now.
If any of y’all are on a forum where people ask others to look out for stolen Miatas, maybe see if this is one of them?
(Also...damn, these things are tiny. Now I want one.)

Coleman stove should still fit in the trunk with a sleeping bag. Doggo will be fine in the other seat. I see no problem with that.

Prime hooning location.

Could try putting it up on a Miata reddit? It’s a long way from home.

looks remarkably undamaged if it was stolen
(that said...im kinda used to the crackfiends round here..they mostly brick a window and hotwire...and then have a party in the car....basically...you dont want it back after it got stoleded)

if it’s already been tagged as stolen, won’t the sheriff have it towed soon?

Pueblo, Maryland plates, probably military related. Someone from Carson/Pete. Any DOD stickers on the windshield that you noticed?

Evidence of hooning present, hooned to failure. Buy why would you abandon it?

I grew up in Maryland, and seeing the MD license plate with that background really, really confused me until I read your post.

If you can snag the VIN this might work.

I mean, in theory, but I know some of those networks aren’t shared nationwide. Shitty stories abound of folks not being notified that their car was discovered and impounded a few states away and was crushed or scrapped without them finding out in time.

I’m not large (5'8 on a good day, size 12 shoes, 34" waist, 32" inseam) and I didn’t fit in mine very well. You have to be an odd and uncommon size (that of the average Japanese man in 1990, I reckon) to comfortably fit. NBs are better.

My theory is some folks at the base stole their buddies car, damaged it in the donut frenzy so it won’t run, and haven’t told him where it is. In which case, hopefully once they tow it tomorrow someone will be in touch with the guy. But...

I know peeps post to local facebook groups in both events that
Their moto is stolen
They think a moto was stolen (parked in a weird spot, long time, or damaged)
It’s out of state
as you said,
I’d just phone it in on the non-emergency line to the authorities and have them figure out what the deal is.

Cops have it in their system. I was just hoping to figure out where to check in case the owner is looking for a it but hasn’t been contacted yet.

Instagram is great for getting the word out on stolen cars, they get shared quick.

Check with local police? If the American system is similar to ours, a plate or VIN will be flagged country-wide as stolen.

I’m not an owner, i’m not a “Miata enthusiast” or any sort of fanboy. Growing up my opinion was always “well, they’re kinda cool i guess, but probably not for me.”
I drove an NA for the first time a few years ago and...well...it was pretty eye opening. If you’re not afraid of sliding around a bit, those things are pretty incredible. Imagine driving a RWD sports car at the limit. Now take the difficulty factor that you’re thinking of and divide it by three. That’s how easy it is to drive a miata near or past the limits of adhesion.
Also thumbs up for good Samaritan
!

No way - NBs are the tightest Miatas.

The police sold my friends car and they reported it. He saw it a couple years later in the wild and had to get into it.

The cop, or junior cop service aide, would’ve run the VIN through NCIC when they tagged it. If it is stolen, they only reason they wouldn’t have recovered it would be if it hadn’t been reported yet.

True, I mean some states used to be much longer, but Maryland wasn’t among them:

I’ve never seen that map, but it’s hilarious. I appreciate that my home state has somehow always stayed the same size and all these other behemoths got chopped down.

We had an NB in my shop a couple weeks ago. The tech that worked on it is 6’5”, easily 350 pounds, and he looked absolutely ridiculous in it.

Width wise, yeah. But the interior is better laid out. When they’re low, it’s tricky to get into an NB than an NA, but from what time I’ve had in an NB, the pedal box is positioned better, seat position is better, and the center console isn’t as in the way, though they still benefit massively from the knee pad thingy.

I’m smaller than you so theoretically I might be ok. I might be the size of the average Japanese man in 1990

Yeah, since un damaged I was thinking more along the lines of how my dad and his brothers used to steal each other’s cars. My dad lost a VW to one of them that was never recovered (turns out, Beetles DONT float).

I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t going to keep an eye on municipal auctions down there for a bit...
